Week 2 - Documenting Time
The depiction of a decaying flower over the course of five days
/ DAY ONE /
Medium
Artline 200 0.4mm fine liner and 110gsm cartridge paper

Process
I cut a flower off a bush, put it into a glass bottle and got to drawing. Using a 0.4mm fine liner, I lightly drew a circle roughly the size of the flower and drew some construction lines for the bottle and stalk. I began sketching out the rough shapes of the petals, then added the shadows using a hatching technique, attempting to vary the spacing to imply lighter or darker shadows.

Reflection
Due to the complexity of the flowers petal arrangement and my lack of flower drawing experience I became overwhelmed with the details. The line work was rough and the shading was rushed in places. The darker areas under the flower have too dark of an outline.
/ DAY TWO /
Medium
Artline 200 0.4mm fine liner and 110gsm cartridge paper

Process
Like the previous days drawing, I started with the linework first, adding shading and more detail as the drawing progressed.

Reflection
During this drawing I focused on making the petals more accurate to the flower and used the shadows to hide gaps more effectively. I also noticed that even though the stem began to droop, the flower buds started opening, trying to depict that was challenging. I focused less on the bottle and more on the flower in this image, so the bottle looks less busy.
/ DAY THREE /
Medium
Artline 200 0.4mm fine liner and 110gsm cartridge paper

Process
Tried focusing more on shading today and getting my line weights more even throughout the drawing. Other than that the drawing process remained largely unchanged.

Reflection
The bottle looks a bit wonky in this days drawing, however the linework is becoming far more evenly weighted throughout the entire drawing which is a plus. The detail did go down a bit in today's drawing due to a rushed drawing.
/ DAY FOUR /
Medium
Artline 200 0.4mm fine liner and 110gsm cartridge paper

Process
Gave cross hatching an attempt in this drawing to try accentuate the darks.

Reflection
The cross hatching worked well in spots however I do not believe that I used the technique enough throughout the drawing. It looks somewhat out of place and too dark. The petals look more cohesive in this sketch, this gives the image a flatter look than previous drawings.
/ DAY FIVE /
Medium
Artline 200 0.4mm fine liner and 110gsm cartridge paper

Process
The flower began to wither faster today, I attempted to make the flower darker to show this.

Reflection
In an attempt to do darker hatching, I tried to make lots of quick lines but didn't lift my pen enough resulting in a scribbled style of hatching, it looks messier than previous drawings. The petals also seem to have lost their definition today due to a more rushed approach to drawing the flower. If I did this last drawing again, I would take it slower and use lest hatching to clean up the drawing as well as focusing more of the details.
